We schedule monthly maintenance windows. To inconvenience our users as little as possible, we try to keep disruptive, non-urgent activities within these windows. Scheduled maintenance includes reboots, upgrades, and migrations. We aim to warn users of affected systems what to expect in the week before the planned maintenance.
Maintenance usually happens on the third Thursday of the month between 10 am and 1 pm. All the services we run are at risk during this period.
Sometimes we need to carry out emergency maintenance, we try to give users as much notice of this as possible. Emergency maintenance includes things like hardware replacement, urgent security updates, and urgent bug fixes where functionality is impaired for some or all users.
We attempt to carry out emergency maintenance outside of core hours where possible to minimise its impact on users.
